Why Kobo is the most important ebook player in Ireland
Kobo has announced that its ebook readers are the most valuable in the world and the best in the developed world.
Kobo is now the world’s third largest e-book seller behind Apple and Amazon, but it is the only retailer in Ireland with its own e-reader, and it is expected to be the country’s most important e-reading platform by 2020.
It has more than 300 million customers in the US and around 2.4 million in Ireland.
It is one of the fastest-growing companies in the digital space with sales of more than $3 billion last year, and has been valued at $20 billion.
The Irish market is home to many of the most popular digital platforms and the market is ripe for new digital distribution.
“This year, we’re very proud to be one of only two countries in the global industry with its e-readers,” said Kobo CEO Paul Eriksson.
“Our products have been designed with a unique user experience that will appeal to both users and business customers.
We are working hard to provide our customers with the best possible experiences and to deliver the best digital content for them, with the most engaging content and the most relevant content for customers, at the same time.”
A key part of Kobo’s strategy is its partnership with digital book publisher Scribd, which enables customers to access all of Scribd’s content online and on Kobo.
The partnership is a key part in the company’s push to build a new digital business, with Kobo also set to launch its own digital book service later this year.
“Our ebook and digital library services will be the backbone of the company for the next decade and beyond,” said Erikssen.
“They will enable us to deliver compelling content to our customers and continue to expand the content and reach of our platform to millions of new users and customers every day.”
The digital book market is expected by some to be worth $20 trillion, with many countries including Ireland alone forecast to grow it to $50 trillion by 2020.
“Kobo’s ebook products range from simple, casual reading, such as reading books on your Kindle or ereader, to longer-form reading, including novels and magazines.
The company also offers a range of smart-book apps and mobile apps for the Kindle, iPad and iPhone, which allow users to access its products, including its books, bookshelves, magazines and other content.”
By partnering with Scribd to bring a truly global experience to consumers, Kobo continues to demonstrate its continued leadership in digital publishing and the impact that the platform has on consumers’ lives,” said Simon Pritchard, president of global digital publishing at Scribd.”
In 2018, we are pleased to be joining forces with KOB as we continue to deliver a broad range of digital products to our users around the world.
“The company has also launched its own ebook reader app, called Kobo Reader, which will be available to Apple, Android and Windows phones, and on desktop computers and tablets from the beginning of next year.
The app will offer the same great reading experience as the Kobo e-books, but will also allow users who do not have a device to download and read from a Kobo account.
The new apps will be accessible from the Apple App Store, the Android app store, the Windows Store, Google Play, Amazon’s Kindle app store and the Google Play store, and the Kindle Owners Club app store.”
We will continue to make our books available for download on our apps and through our website, as well as through a variety of partners, including the Amazon Kindle App Store and the Microsoft Store,” said Michael Kohn, CEO of Scribble. “
By offering readers a unified, integrated experience that makes it easy to access the content they want, and by providing access to content in the cloud, we will enable millions of people to discover, enjoy and share their favorite content.”
“We will continue to make our books available for download on our apps and through our website, as well as through a variety of partners, including the Amazon Kindle App Store and the Microsoft Store,” said Michael Kohn, CEO of Scribble.
“The Scribble app will be an excellent complement to our Kobo eBook reader for those looking to take advantage of this new and exciting new platform.”
The new platform will also enable users to search for content and make purchases.
“As one of Europe’s most successful publishing companies, KOB has been a leader in innovation, and we are excited to be adding Kobo to our digital publishing portfolio,” said Peter Bredesen, president and CEO of Adobe Digital Editions.
“Kobo will help make it easier for our customers to discover and discover great content, while also providing us with the tools to help bring the best content to consumers.”KOB’s digital strategy has been designed to deliver an authentic and unique experience for its customers.
The Kobo E-reader was designed to give customers an experience they can relate to and that will be able to bring them into the digital world, said Erika Voorhoeve
