What’s new in Apple ebook reader?
The first version of Apple’s new ebook reader, called Calibre, has been a hit with reviewers, who rate it the third best ebook reader on Amazon, and have praised it for its ability to take advantage of its new hardware capabilities.
Apple also introduced a new version of its iBooks app, which lets users access more than a million books in the Apple iBookstore and iBooks Author portal, and is designed to provide more ways for users to buy books on its online store.
On Tuesday, the software giant announced that the latest version of Calibret, codenamed XS, is available for download.
The app can be downloaded for free from the app store, or can be purchased for $2.99 for a year of access to Apple’s online store, which also includes iBooks.
The company said that the new version allows users to access more books in Calibres bookstore, iBooks author portal and iBookstores online store than before, and that it has more than 100,000 titles in its catalog.
“Calibre is the most user-friendly ebook reader for Macs, Mac OS X and iOS devices that we have ever built,” said Scott Neidert, Apple’s senior vice president of product management for Mac and iPad software.
“We know that we’re a long way from delivering the best ebook reading experience available on any platform, but this release is just the beginning.
We are committed to bringing our readers the best reading experience they have ever had on any device, and we are thrilled to continue to bring the best of our platform to Calibris readers.”
The company also said that Calibregas first-generation iOS apps were “the best-selling iOS apps of all time.”
